Why is this important?

Mental and substance abuse disorders affect people from all walks of life and all age groups. The emergency department has increasingly become used as a source of care those with mental and substance abuse disorders. Use of emergency rooms for non-urgent mental and substance abuse disorders can lead to prolonged emergency department (ED) wait time times and may reduce quality of care and increase adverse events.
